Viva Las Vegas

We recently returned from World Market Center in Las Vegas where we go a couple of times a year to see what’s coming in the world of sleep. We sampled a lot of things from the current companies we carry that are set to come out soon, and we looked at a lot of new companies to evaluate whether or not their products are worth the precious space in our showrooms.

We have always made every effort to bring you the best products out there and to make sure you are getting the quality you expect at the absolute lowest prices, and I feel that this is one area where we really excel. For example, we introduced Ventura County to Organic and Green mattresses around three years ago with Natura’s products, and have been an authorized Tempur-Pedic dealer for many years now. We also will refuse to carry a product we don’t believe in, even if it means that we will lose sales by not having it. For example, typical memory foam mattresses and toppers are inexpensive and in demand. In many cases, they are also unsupportive and prone to rapid breakdown. We carry a number of memory foam beds from a number of companies, but we will not carry anything that isn’t of an “Ultra-Premium” quality level (their words, not ours). What this means is that even our memory foam beds designed for children are made exclusively of a super high density material, providing a greater concentration of cells per square inch. This not only allows them to better conform to your body (providing better support), but they will also retain their shape, and are warrantied for 20 years against body impressions or any other defect.

I may have gotten a bit off-topic, but the point I’m trying to make is that market is a very important time for us, because every time we go, we systematically consider every product we offer to you and whether or not it is worth us staking our reputation on. We also devote between 40-60% of our time in Vegas to seeking out new products that fit into our vision of the type of business we want to be (the type of business we would want in our community).

So here are some highlights of this past market, which we returned from about 3 weeks ago:

Englander

Englander is a very old mattress company (Since 1894), and one that we have carried for a long time. They have some incredibly values in their innerspring lines, and some outstanding latex mattresses, including mattresses that are certified organic. One particular highlight of theirs is that a line of mattresses that we carry of theirs using a wrapped (or ‘pocketed’) coil unit is now being offered with a foam encased edge support at the exact same price. What this means to you is that for no extra these beds are now coming in to our warehouse with even greater structural integrity!

Natura

Those of you who are reading this probably have some idea who Natura is because they keep such an awesome blog that we link to it all the time in our facebook status updates. We carry mattresses of theirs that are certified organic, in addition to quite a few of their pillows and other accessories (like wool toppers & comforters, etc.)

We attended Natura’s “Tweet Up!” where they had a panel discussion on social networking. It was fun to hear everybody talk about their experiences with facebook & twitter and swap stories of some of the things they have learned in the process. This is all very new for us, so it was fun to hear about how some other people got started in it.

We also saw their NexGel beds, which will be making their way to our showrooms here shortly. We linked to them in an earlier post on our facebook wall and we are happy to say that they are a great product, and something to be excited about.

Tempur-Pedic

Tempur-Pedic announced a new line of softer feeling beds called the Cloud Collection. This will be composed of three new mattresses all using a new formulation of their Tempur material that gives them a bit of a softer, more pillowy feel without sacrificing support or durability. This is something that has been requested quite a bit, and I have no doubt that these beds are going to be very successful.

Stearns & Foster

Stearns & Foster is a luxury mattress manufacturer, and the oldest furniture brand in the United States (Since 1846). They announced an expansion of their line by adding 3 hand-made beds above the current model that their beds top out at. What is exciting about these is that in keeping with the trend they started with the recent redesign of their line, the pricing on these beds is less than you would expect for the quality you are getting.

Simmons

Simmons is the manufacturer of Beautyrest, and the first to come out with the individual pocketed coil system that revolutionized motion separation and support for innerspring mattresses. They announced some revamps to their Beautyrest Exceptionale line. We are fortunate to be one of the retailers who carry their Black Label Beautyrest beds, which are the highest quality Beautyrest beds that they manufacture, yet very exclusive. The Exceptionale is designed to be the top of their line at most stores that carry Beautyrest, since their Black Label beds are limited to certain retailers only, and they are certainly nice beds.

Another big announcement for Simmons was the introduction of their ComforPedic Loft mattresses, which utilize their NxG memory foam that is known for dissipating heat and having a quicker recovery & consistent feel at a lower price than their original ComforPedic line.

Aireloom

Aireloom is another luxury manufacturer, known for their hand-made mattresses. Designed by Earl Kluft, they use a “nested” and zoned individually wrapped coil unit for superior support and motion separation. Aireloom had some changes to their line as well, including adding basic improvements to some of the beds that we currently carry, again without increasing the pricing. We also looked at some of their organic cotton beds that may find their way to our showrooms as well.

We found some great new furniture also, which we will post pictures of online when they arrive.

In the meantime, as always please send us your questions, either by email or in the comments so we know what you want to hear about!

Sleep Sound & Wake Up Happy,

The Sleep Shoppe

Welcome!

Hello Everybody!

We are excited to introduce this blog as a way for us to interact more with our community and shed some light on what is really going on in the world of sleep.

We intend on using this as a vehicle to explore some myths and misconceptions regarding the science of sleep and what you can be doing to get the best sleep possible. It is our goal to help people improve their quality of life through the restorative powers of a good night’s rest without them having to spend their life’s savings on a new mattress. This is not only possible, but easier than you may think, and we will discuss several ways to do this through this blog.

We are not doing this to annoy you, and we are planning on only posting these maybe once a month or so. Please comment, ask questions, and email us to tell us what you would like us to talk about. Again, our goal is to help you and to create a community dialog, and if we don’t know what you want we won’t know how to do that.

Sleep Well,

The Sleep Shoppe
